Want a better job? Dream of a career change? Need to retrain? I’ve known Caryl Neinas since we both worked for a recreational program for active senior adults. Now she works for the Educational Opportunity Center of Kansas City, Kansas and is focused on helping adults in Wyandotte County, Kansas, achieve more through education. She’s partnering with the Library to offer a free informational seminar, Back to School for Adults: the Way to a Better Future, at West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd. St., Kansas City, Kansas, on Thursday, April 2, at 7 p.m.; and again on Thursday, April 30, at 10 a.m.
Maybe the next step for you in continuing education is getting a GED. Perhaps it’s figuring out how to combine your skills, dreams and education goals to define a new career path. Learn about the $83 billion in federal grants available – in addition to scholarships and loans – that can get you moving down the path. Gain an advantage in today’s labor market.
If you don’t already have a Kansas City, Kansas Public Library card, apply for one while you’re at the seminar. Your library card puts a wealth of information at your fingertips. Library staff can assist you with finding information on a wide variety of education and career topics. Bring your laptop to access the Internet and the Library’s online resources through free WiFi. Or, use one of the public access computers to research careers, hunt for a job, or complete job applications online.
Bring a friend who could benefit from continuing education or new computer skills. The Library offers free computer classes which start with the very basics of using a computer, mouse and keyboard. There are also classes on e-mail; the Internet; eBay; Miscroft Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint.
